Let Me Introduce Myself...

Dawn

My name is Dawn Birt, and I am the owner of Pawsitively Canine. Gary and I currently share our home with 4 dogs – all rescues.

Nakita, our Parson Russell Terrier, has earned several obedience titles, including 2 Awards of Excellence from the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and was ranked 70 out of 971 dogs showing in APDT Rally in 2006. We currently compete in various agility and obedience venues including CPE and AKC.

Gwen, our hound-lab mix, has just started training in agility and obedience. She loves to work, and will soon be ready for her first Rally obedience trial.

India, our standard Rat Terrier, and newest addition to the household is still just a pup. She is a quick little agility dog, and we can’t wait to see what she’s capable of!

Weiner, our miniature Dachshund, spends his days napping, and trying to keep the girls in line! At 10+ years, he’s our little old man.

But What About Experience?

Dawn holds both a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Georgia, and currently works as a microbiologist in Marysville, OH. She received her Obedience Instructor Certification (with honors) from Animal Behavior College and has been involved in obedience and agility training since 2002. She has experience teaching beginner, advanced beginner, and novice level agility classes as well as basic, advanced, and rally obedience classes and is currently a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). In her free time, Dawn volunteers at the Union County Humane Society (UCHS). As part of the UCHS Top Dog Training Program, she has enjoyed her time teaching agility and basic obedience cues to shelter dogs and new "rescue parents". Several foster dogs have shared her home in order to learn basic house manners and obedience before moving on to their Forever Homes.
My goal as head trainer is to help you build a relationship with your canine partner using positive training methods.

This means consistently rewarding good behaviors and replacing "problem" behaviors by teaching and rewarding acceptable alternatives.

I also challenge the dog owner to find out what their dog finds rewarding, and use this to encourage proper behavior and stellar ring performances.
